One Size Fits All Global Warming
Global Warming Etc. should be the revised title for global warming faithful. It seems these days there is absolutely nothing that global warming doesn’t cause. Rain at the winter Olympics? Check. Snowfall records all along the east coast? Check. Earthquakes? Check. No seriously, check. Now the earthquake argument has to do with glaciers holding tectonic plates in place and as they melt the plates can slip and cause earthquakes. Well at least Haiti, the latest greatest disaster wasn’t cause by… "What happened in Haiti could happen to anywhere in the Caribbean because all these island nations are in peril because of global warming," Danny Glover said. I know Glover isn’t a scientist but can we at least acknowledge this as proof that those who do believe in global warming are really just as ignorant as the “deniers.”The problem with this debate is the unbelievable lack of science involved. The IPCC, the U.N. authority on global warming has been mired in scandal after scandal since climate gate. Phil Jones the former director of the Climatic Research Institute at the University of East Anglia just had an astounding interview with the BBC. His institute was one of the main players involved with the IPCC, and the climategate scandal. He says now, after years of fierce support of global warming, the earth hasn’t warmed significantly for the past 15 years. He admitted the medieval warm period may have been “as warm, or warmer,” than our recent warming period. You know it’s bad when one of your causes poster boys contradicts years of propaganda warmers have worked hard to peddle.
This really shouldn’t be hard to believe. In recent years we have had the “hockey stick” graph that the IPCC had to retract. Polar bears were going to be extinct until we realized the population was growing significantly. A few weeks ago we found out the Himalayan glaciers will not be gone by 2035; this was a finding of a random non peer reviewed study. The arctic is still disappearing though right? Australia Antarctic Division glaciology program head Ian Allison said sea ice losses in west Antarctica over the past 30 years had been more than offset by increases in the Ross Sea region, just one sector of east Antarctica. Oh.
Well when we get to the actual numbers we can tell the earth is warming right? Sure if your trust data that has been adjusted. Not in a nefarious way, in a totally pointless unscientific way. When a temperature data site moves locations scientists adjust the data for the change in location. Why? To make it more “sciency”… right? They only have thousands of data inputs all over the world spanning different period of time. So why adjust it? When a site moved after 15 years, you have a 15 year record there. When it moves don’t adjust it, start a new record reflecting temperature fluctuation at that site. Then again I am no scientist but it seems suspect to me.
This isn’t to say all of the science is bad. It just makes me nervous when warmers tell me that it explains absolutely everything. It makes me think global warming etc. has escaped the realm of science and moved into the realm of faith. Blessed be the warmer.
